About the Location
Historical Significance
Happy Hill Park is located in one of Winston-Salem's oldest African American neighborhoods. The area was originally used by Moravians for farming, later becoming a town plantation and slave quarters.
In 1814, Dr. Frederich Schumann's plantation grew in this location. He eventually emancipated his enslaved African Americans, some of whom were among the earliest American settlers in Liberia.
Recreational Facilities
The park features a section of the Salem Creek Greenway, providing opportunities for walking, jogging, and cycling. There is also a dedicated jogging track for those looking to exercise outdoors.
For sports enthusiasts, the park provides tennis and basketball courts. Families with children can enjoy the playground area and the splash pad, which is particularly popular during warm weather.

William C Sims Neighborhood Center
The park houses the William C Sims Neighborhood Center, which offers additional facilities and programs. The center includes a gymnasium, internet access, a kitchen, and meeting rooms.
The center operates on a separate schedule from the park itself.
