About the Location

Park Overview

Located along the Red River, Lindenwood Park is Fargo's largest multi-use park, spanning 90 acres. With its dense tree cover, the park creates a wilderness escape right within city limits. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or active recreation, the park provides plenty of options.

A Bit of History

Back in 1917, the City of Fargo purchased this land from William and Alice Resser. Originally dubbed "The Linden Woods" (later shortened to just Lindenwood), this green space has been where locals and travelers alike have gathered for outdoor fun for over a century now.

Camping Under the Trees

If you're looking to stay overnight, Lindenwood offers a 46-site campground with paved, back-in spots along the scenic Red River. Each site comes equipped with water and electricity hookups, but just know that some spots might be a bit unlevel.

The camping season typically runs from May 1 to October 1. You can find clean bathhouses with hot showers, and there's a dump station on-site (though no sewer hookups at individual campsites). The campground offers a blend of natural surroundings with some modern amenities.

Play for Everyone

The park features a fully adaptive playground - the only one of its kind in the region. Built in partnership with the FM Rotary Foundation, this universal playground ensures children of all abilities can join in the fun.

The park actually features several playground areas scattered across the grounds, which is fantastic for spreading out when things get busy. Parents of little ones will appreciate that the main playground area is fenced in, making it easier to keep track of energetic toddlers.

Trails and Wildlife

Lace up your walking shoes or hop on a bike to explore Lindenwood's network of trails. Winter visitors aren't left out either - some paths are groomed for cross-country skiing when the snow falls.

A pedestrian bridge connects the park to Gooseberry Park in neighboring Moorhead, Minnesota, effectively doubling your exploration options. Keep your eyes peeled for deer and various birds as you wander - you might even spot the elusive pileated woodpecker in the wooded areas.

On the Water

The park features an ADA-compliant kayak launch on the Red River, making water recreation accessible to people of different abilities. Don't have your own kayak? No problem - rentals are available right in the park.

Fishing enthusiasts can often be found along the riverbanks, peacefully casting their lines during the warmer months. It's a tranquil way to spend an afternoon, even if the fish aren't biting.

Two Wheels to Explore

One cool option at Lindenwood is the bicycle rental service. It's a reasonably priced way to cover more ground on the extensive trail system. They offer various types of bikes, including family models that can accommodate multiple riders - well-suited for exploring with kids in tow.

Picnic Perfect

Spread a blanket or grab one of the many picnic tables scattered around the park. Permanent BBQ grills make it easy to cook up an outdoor feast, and several reservable shelters accommodate larger gatherings if you're planning a family reunion or celebration.

The mature trees provide ample shade for summer picnics, with plenty of open green space nearby for tossing a frisbee or kicking a soccer ball after your meal.

Community Gathering Space

Lindenwood transforms during the year to host various community events. Winter brings the treasured annual Holiday Lights display, which has been organized by the local Sertoma Club chapter since 1999.

The park also honors military service through several memorials, including a submarine memorial. These spaces provide quiet moments for reflection amidst the recreational activities.
