About the Location

Park Overview

Lindenwood Park is the largest multi-use park in Fargo, North Dakota. Located along the Red River, this 90-acre park features a heavily wooded landscape that provides a natural, wilderness-like setting within the city.

Historical Background

The park was established in 1917 when the City of Fargo purchased the land from William and Alice Resser. It was originally known as "The Linden Woods" before being shortened to Lindenwood.

The park has been a popular recreation spot for over a century, offering camping, picnicking, and outdoor activities for both locals and visitors.

Camping Facilities

Lindenwood Park is home to a beautifully landscaped campground with 46 back-in campsites, each equipped with water and electricity hookups. The campground is nestled along the Red River, adding to its scenic appeal.

Camping season typically runs from May 1 to October 1 each year.

Accessible Playground

One of the park's notable features is its fully adaptive playground, designed to be accessible for children of all abilities. This universal playground, built in partnership with the FM Rotary Foundation, is the only one of its magnitude in the region.

Trails and Outdoor Activities

The park offers extensive recreational opportunities with its network of walking and biking trails. During winter, some trails are groomed for cross-country skiing.

A pedestrian bridge connects Lindenwood Park to Gooseberry Park in neighboring Moorhead, Minnesota, expanding the available trail system.

Water Recreation

For water enthusiasts, Lindenwood Park features an ADA-compliant kayak launch on the Red River. This adaptive launch allows a wide variety of users to enjoy non-motorized water sports.

Kayak rentals are available within the park for those who don't have their own equipment.

Community Events

Throughout the year, Lindenwood Park hosts various community events. One of the most popular is the annual Holiday Lights display, organized by the local Sertoma Club chapter since 1999.

This event transforms the park into a festive wonderland during the winter months.
