About the Location

A Natural Revival

The Valley View Area, newly opened to the public in 2024, is the latest addition to Cascade Valley Metro Park. This 200-acre area was once a golf course until Summit Metro Parks acquired it in 2016 and began a significant transformation.

The ecological restoration here is remarkable. What was once a golf course supporting around 100 species has grown into an ecosystem now home to nearly 1,000 species of plants and wildlife. The landscape has evolved from manicured greens to a more wild, varied terrain with some truly beautiful natural vistas.

Cuyahoga River Connection

At the heart of Valley View's appeal is its relationship with the Cuyahoga River. Nearly a mile of the river has been restored to its natural state as part of the park's development - a change that's had positive ripple effects for both the ecosystem and communities downstream.

The park offers nice views of the Cuyahoga River Valley and provides public access to the water. If you're into paddling, there's a dedicated kayak and canoe launch at mile 42.2 of the river - a good starting point for exploring the water.

Trails to Explore

The current trail system consists of two one-mile gravel paths that meander through various restored habitats - meadows, wetlands, and forested areas. A third connector trail is in the works, which will enhance the already impressive network.

These trails connect to the broader Cascade Valley Metro Park system, creating a continuous green space spanning nearly 1,900 acres. Just a heads-up though - while the trails are well-maintained and easy to navigate, they only offer partial shade. You might want to bring a hat if you're visiting on a sunny summer day.

Thoughtful Amenities

Central to the Valley View Area stands a renovated historic barn, repainted in a natural wood tone that fits with the surrounding landscape.

The park features several restrooms and an open-air shelter suitable for gatherings. This pavilion has tables, benches, and electrical outlets - making it usable for family picnics and events like weddings or graduation celebrations.

Places to Play and Relax

Kids will enjoy the nature-inspired playground with its small slide and play features designed to connect children with the natural world. Safety hasn't been overlooked - the play area features special soft ground covering to cushion any falls.

Within the park, you'll find convenient drinking fountains, tasteful lighting (which shuts off at 11 PM), and generous open grassy spaces ideal for relaxation or play. The thoughtful design makes Valley View welcoming for visitors of all ages, and your four-legged friends are welcome too - just keep them on a leash.
