About Hillside Park
A Serene Area with a View
Found in Cincinnati's Hyde Park neighborhood, Hillside Park feels like a secret green retreat that locals cherish. Perched above Columbia Parkway, this quiet sanctuary offers one of the most beautiful vantage points of the Ohio River you'll come across in the city. Since it's a bit off the beaten path, you'll often have this peaceful spot mostly to yourself - a rarity in urban parks.
Roots in Cincinnati's Park Heritage
Hillside Park is part of Cincinnati's thoughtfully designed park system, which traces back to the 1907 blueprint "A Park System for the City of Cincinnati" created by landscape architect George E. Kessler. While we can't tell you exactly when Hillside itself was established, it's been a cherished part of Cincinnati's outdoor spaces for generations.
ADCincinnati Ballparks & Breweries Bus Tour
Professional baseball began in Cincinnati and this unique experience takes guests to every location where the Reds played during the 19th and 20th century, tracing the connection between historic brewing and baseball along the way! Beginning at the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum, the tour starts with an informative trip to Great American Ball Park and includes a stop in the Reds’ home dugout.
What Makes It Special
The star attraction here has to be that jaw-dropping city view from the overlook near the end of Ohio Avenue. On clear days, you can take in sweeping panoramas of Cincinnati's skyline and watch the gentle flow of the river valley below - definitely worth bringing your camera for this one.
If you're bringing kids along, there's a playground with slides and climbing equipment that's technically designed for 5-12 year olds, but the little ones can have fun here too with some supervision. Sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten either - there's a soccer field and a baseball field where you can kick around a ball or practice your swing.
Nature Escapes
One of our favorite features is the short woodland trail that winds through the park. Shaded by a canopy of trees, it's particularly refreshing when the summer heat hits Cincinnati. Just be prepared for some steep sections - nothing too extreme, but enough to get your heart rate up a bit.
The park's natural charm is enhanced by seasonal wildflowers and thoughtfully placed birdhouses that attract local feathered residents. It's a small but meaningful touch that makes this park feel more like a nature preserve than just another city green space.
Practical Comforts
When it's time for a break, head to the covered shelter with its four picnic tables. It's perfectly positioned for adults to relax while keeping an eye on children at play. And no need to worry about parking - there's plenty available right at the park.
ADMount Adams Historic Smartphone Guided App GPS Audio Walking Tour
On our smart phone guided adventure you will be guided you through the historic streets of Mt. Adams and you’ll see the historic buildings, the staircases, an old speak easy, many of the best views of the city, historic churches and a mural as grand as the city itself.
The Hillside Experience
What this park does best is provide a quiet escape from Cincinnati's urban energy. Its position on one of the city's characteristic hills contributes to that special Cincinnati topography that locals are so proud of.
The open areas invite impromptu games of frisbee or kite flying when the breeze is just right. And yes, you can bring your four-legged friend along - the park is dog-friendly, making it an ideal spot for an afternoon walk with your pup.
If you're looking for a place that combines natural beauty, recreation, and tranquility without having to leave the city, Hillside Park offers all three without any fuss.
