Lick Run Greenway

Urban Oasis

The Lick Run Greenway is a mile-long urban green space located in the South Fairmount neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. Completed in 2021, this $103 million project serves dual purposes as both a public park and an innovative stormwater management system.

Ecological Engineering

The centerpiece of the greenway is a man-made stream that runs the length of the park, designed to mimic the natural Lick Run waterway that was buried underground over a century ago. This engineered waterway helps separate stormwater from the city's combined sewer system, significantly reducing overflow issues during heavy rainfall.

The stream channels stormwater through a series of bioengineered features including wetlands, bioswales, and a large pond before it empties into Mill Creek.

Recreational Amenities

Beyond its environmental function, the Lick Run Greenway provides much-needed recreational space in an urban setting. The park features walking paths that follow the course of the stream, allowing visitors to enjoy the sights and sounds of flowing water.

Bridges cross the waterway at various points, connecting different areas of the park.

Natural Beauty

The project includes extensive landscaping with native plants, creating habitats for local wildlife and adding natural beauty to the area. Educational signage along the paths informs visitors about the park's ecological features and the history of the Lick Run watershed.
