Fernbank Park

Scenic Riverfront Location

Fernbank Park is a 63-acre green space located along the Ohio River in western Cincinnati, Ohio. The park offers over a mile of riverfront access, providing visitors with scenic views of the river and passing boats.

Managed jointly by the Hamilton County Park District and the Cincinnati Park Board, Fernbank Park serves as a beautiful natural retreat within the city.

Trails and Recreation

The park features a 1.2-mile paved trail that meanders through the park, suitable for walking, jogging, and biking. Additionally, there is a 1-mile natural surface trail called the Sycamore Trail that allows visitors to explore more of the park's natural areas.

Visitors can enjoy picnicking, with several shelters available for reservation. The park also features a large playground area for children, making it a popular destination for families.

Historical Significance

The park has historical significance as the former site of Lock and Dam 37, which was part of the Ohio River's lock and dam system in the early 20th century. Remnants of this history can still be seen in the park, including foundations and structures from the old dam keeper's home and workers' facilities.

Natural Setting

Fishing enthusiasts can take advantage of the park's river access for bank fishing along the Ohio River. The park's natural setting includes mature trees and varied wildlife, offering opportunities for nature observation and birdwatching.
