About the Location
A Piece of Cincinnati History
Found in Cincinnati's College Hill neighborhood, McEvoy Park spans 27 acres of public green space with a story dating back to 1949. That's when Matthew McEvoy sold his land to the city, establishing what became an important green space for generations of Cincinnatians.
Nature's Playground
Despite its modest size compared to other city parks, McEvoy packs in an impressive variety of landscapes. Rolling grassy hills give way to peaceful meadowlands, while wooded areas offer welcome shade on hot Ohio summer days. This terrain variety creates interesting little pockets within the compact space.
Get Your Game On
For those interested in physical activity, The park houses several athletic fields where you can kick around a soccer ball, toss the pigskin for some football, or play America's favorite pastime on the baseball diamond. Not feeling quite so competitive? The open lawn areas are great for casual frisbee sessions or spreading out a picnic blanket.
For the little ones, a well-maintained playground offers the childhood essentials: swings to soar on and slides to zip down. Parents can rest easy knowing it's designed with safety in mind.
Into the Woods
The hiking trails wind through McEvoy's wooded sections and meadows, providing a natural escape within the city. These natural pathways invite you to slow down and notice the local plants and wildlife that call the park home.
Dog owners particularly appreciate these trails as perfect routes for walking their four-legged friends. Nothing beats watching your pup explore new scents while you get some fresh air.
Community Spaces
The park's picnic shelters come equipped with grills and sit conveniently close to water fountains, making them ideal for everything from birthday celebrations to family reunions. You can reserve these ahead of time for your gathering - a smart move during peak seasons.
Picnic tables scattered within the grounds create natural gathering spots, while the open areas occasionally host larger community events, including some impressive fireworks displays that light up the College Hill sky.
Practical Matters
When nature calls, you'll discover restroom facilities with separate men's and women's bathrooms available. A dedicated parking lot makes visiting convenient, however it does fill up quickly during weekends and special events - you might want to arrive early if visiting during these peak times.
Over the decades, McEvoy Park has become an established green space in College Hill, where Cincinnati residents can play, relax, and enjoy nature within the city. The park tends to be busy on weekends, particularly popular with nearby residents.
