Owl's Nest Park

Historic Origins

Owl's Nest Park is a public green space located at the intersection of three Cincinnati neighborhoods: East Walnut Hills, O'Bryonville, and Evanston. The park spans approximately 10.5 acres and has been a cornerstone of community life since its inception in 1905, when it was donated by Charles E. and Edward C. Perkins in honor of their parents.

A plaque set in granite marks the location where the original Perkins house once stood, serving as a reminder of the park's history.

Notable Architecture

A highlight of the park is the Owl's Nest Pavilion, designed by prominent Cincinnati architects Elzner & Anderson. This brick structure, dedicated in 1933, sits at the center of the property and originally served as a pool and field house.

The pavilion offers views of a grand lawn facing Madison Road from its upper level, while its lower level once housed restrooms and concessions overlooking a baseball field and swimming pool.

Landscape Features

The park's landscape includes rolling hills, mature trees, and paved walkways that wind through the grounds. These natural elements create a peaceful retreat within the urban environment.

Park Evolution

Owl's Nest Park has undergone several changes over the years. The swimming pool, which was an integral part of the park's recreational offerings, was permanently closed in the 1990s.

In 2005, the surrounding communities initiated a $2 million public/private redevelopment plan to create a venue for community gatherings and to connect the neighboring areas.

Community Preservation

In 2021, local community groups successfully advocated for the preservation of the aging Owl's Nest Pavilion, which had been slated for demolition. This effort has led to ongoing plans for the pavilion's renovation and the park's overall improvement, with the aim of meeting the diverse needs of the surrounding community.
