About Scranton Flats in Cleveland

Scranton Flats is a public park located along the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. Formerly an industrial site, this area has been transformed into a natural green space as part of ongoing efforts to restore the river and provide public access to the waterfront.

The park features 9 acres of restored meadowland habitat planted with native species. A key element is the two-acre fish habitat area created in the river to support aquatic life. Visitors can observe the river ecosystem from an observation deck that extends out over the water.

Scranton Flats serves as an access point for the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, a multi-use trail that follows the historic canal route. The park provides connections for pedestrians and cyclists to explore the industrial valley and downtown Cleveland skyline views.

As part of the site's ecological restoration, a large section of natural river shoreline was re-established. This helps improve water quality and provides habitat for plants and animals along the river's edge. The park represents an effort to balance urban development with environmental conservation along Cleveland's waterfront.
