About the Location
Historic Background
Stuart Patterson Park was originally known as Walters Grove, a popular picnic site, before being renamed in honor of Stuart Patterson, the nephew of National Cash Register (NCR) founder John H. Patterson. Stuart Patterson tragically died in a plane crash at nearby McCook Field.
Park Features
The park serves as a recreational space for the local community and features a variety of amenities. One of its notable features is a spray park, which was added to provide a fun water play area for visitors.
The spray park has a medieval theme, with elements such as knights, horses, and water-breathing dragons, offering an imaginative and refreshing experience for children and families during warm weather.
Community Services
Stuart Patterson Park is also home to the Francis Fitzsimmons Senior Citizens Center, providing a space for older adults in the community to gather and participate in activities. The park's location between the Great Miami and Mad rivers contributes to its natural setting within the urban landscape of Dayton.
Future Developments
In recent years, the City of Dayton has included Stuart Patterson Park in its plans for upgrading and improving local parks and recreational facilities. These plans have involved evaluating the park's existing amenities and considering potential enhancements to better serve the community's needs.
