About the Location
Park Overview
Nestled behind St. Anne's Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, Foxglove Meadows Park is a hidden 7.5-acre spot that offers a peaceful retreat from city life. This neighborhood park is small, yet offers a sense of tranquility. With just six paved parking spaces at the end of Willis Boulevard, it maintains that intimate, local feel that bigger parks sometimes miss.
The park is well-maintained without feeling overly manicured - with clean pathways and grassy areas that feel welcoming to use.
Walking Trails
If you're looking to stretch your legs, the park's 0.5-mile paved walking trail winds through the grounds like a ribbon connecting all its features. Recently repaved (goodbye, ankle-twisting cracks!), the path is smooth and welcoming for everything from morning jogs to evening strolls.
We particularly appreciate the thoughtfully placed benches along the route - fantastic for catching your breath or simply sitting a while to watch the world go by. Mature trees create dappled shade along much of the trail, making it comfortable even during Ohio's warmer months. You'll likely encounter neighbors walking their dogs or getting in their daily steps - it's that kind of place where a friendly nod becomes part of the experience.
Recreation Areas
At the heart of the park, you'll discover a children's playground that keeps the little ones entertained. It's outfitted with two baby swings and two regular swings (no waiting forever for a turn), plus slides positioned at different ends of the play area. Nothing fancy, but clean, safe, and well-maintained - exactly what parents need.
Hungry after all that play? The park offers picnic tables scattered throughout and a large gazebo that functions as a picnic shelter. The gazebo is particularly handy when you need a bit of shade or shelter from a surprise summer shower. For those who take their outdoor eating seriously, charcoal grills dot the western half of the park, ready for your burgers and hot dogs.
If you're feeling more active, the tennis courts provide a space to work on your serve or engage in a friendly match.
Natural Features
What gives Foxglove Meadows its character is the winding creek that cuts through the entire park. It's not one of those perfectly landscaped water features - this is a real creek that changes its personality as it flows, marshy in some spots and gentler in others. You can cross it via wooden bridges that add a touch of rustic charm, while an old stone wall borders another section, hinting at the area's history.
The western half of the park feels almost forest-like, with tall trees creating a natural canopy over benches, picnic tables, and grills. The abundance of nature provides a contrast to the nearby Franklin Park commercial area.
Note that there are no public restrooms available, but given the park's modest size, it's ideal for shorter visits. It's a quiet space where you can hear yourself think - a neighborhood park that offers both recreation and natural beauty.
