About the Location

Urban Oasis in Downtown

Tucked right in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City, Scissortail Park spreads across a generous 70 acres, connecting the city core to the Oklahoma River shoreline. Since opening in 2019, this green space has become a popular escape from the urban hustle.

The park is split into two distinct areas: the 40-acre Upper Park and the 30-acre Lower Park, with the striking Skydance Bridge arching over Interstate 40 to connect them.

Upper Park Features

The Upper Park, which opened first, combines natural elements with thoughtful design. You can wander through ornamental gardens and peaceful woodlands that feature Oklahoma's native landscape. Plant enthusiasts will appreciate that many of the meticulously maintained native species are labeled, offering a bit of education with your stroll.

Feel like getting on the water? The 3.7-acre lake offers a serene backdrop for relaxation, with paddle boat rentals available if you're in the mood to float awhile. When the city hosts events, the Love's Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn transform into vibrant venues for performances and community gatherings.

History buffs should take note of the restored Union Station, a reminder of the area's past.

Lower Park Activities

Completely finished in 2022, the Lower Park complements its northern counterpart with spaces designed for getting active. Whether you're into shooting hoops on the basketball courts, trying your hand at pickleball, kicking a ball around the soccer field, or practicing tricks at the skate park, there's something for every sports enthusiast.

Together, both sections provide 70 acres of green space that blend learning and recreational opportunities.

Family-Friendly Amenities

If you're bringing kids along, the park has a large playground with features like a challenging ninja course, sandboxes for the little ones, and a massive metal slide popular with children of all ages.

When Oklahoma's summer heat kicks in, the splash pad provides a refreshing water play area for kids. And don't worry about convenience - clean restrooms are strategically placed within the park.

Accessibility and Community

The park features wide, accessible paths that make navigation easy for everyone, while the overall layout creates spaces for people to gather and enjoy the outdoors.

The park is located near other downtown attractions like the convention center and Paycom Center, adding green space to the downtown area.

Events and Sustainability

Throughout the year, the park comes alive with diverse events - from concerts and weekend farmers markets to night markets, fitness classes, and seasonal celebrations. Many of these events cost nothing to attend, making them accessible to everyone in the community.

The park incorporates native plants and water conservation measures as part of its environmental approach.

Dog-Friendly Environment

Four-legged friends haven't been forgotten here. Scissortail Park welcomes dogs with dedicated walking trails and a dog park where they can socialize off-leash. Throughout the rest of the park, pups need to stay leashed, but the smooth paved paths make for comfortable walking. You'll discover waste bags available to help keep the grounds clean and pleasant for everyone enjoying the space.
