About the Location

A Natural Retreat

Situated on the western edge of Bend, Oregon, Alpine Park is a little piece of wilderness that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle. Spanning about 15.3 acres, this natural area sits right next to the Tetherow resort community and the First on the Hill neighborhood. One of the first things you'll notice? Those breathtaking views of the Cascade Mountains that seem to follow you across the park.

Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the diverse fauna here. The park is home to an array of creatures - keep your eyes peeled and you might spot deer grazing peacefully, quail scurrying about, or even catch a glimpse of the more elusive coyotes and bobcats in their natural habitat.

Connect the Dots

Alpine Park isn't just a destination - it's a connector. A main trail cuts through the park, linking the Broken Top neighborhood with Cascade Middle School and the Skyline Sports Complex to the east. It's essentially a natural corridor for the community.

Feeling adventurous? The park connects to the Haul Road Trail along Century Drive to the south and extends to U.S. Forest Service trails to the west. Within the park itself, you can wander along single track soft surface trails that wind through the landscape.

What to Do

Bring your four-legged friend along (just remember to keep them leashed) and explore this dog-friendly neighborhood park together.

Sometimes the simplest pleasures are the best - spread out on the open grassy areas, soak in those mountain views, and just breathe. Alpine Park offers that perfect peaceful retreat when you need a moment away from it all, whether you're taking a casual stroll or simply sitting back to appreciate Central Oregon's natural beauty.

The Park's Journey

Alpine Park has a story to tell. Back in 1991, the Awbrey Hall wildfire swept through, claiming much of the park's tree canopy. But nature - with a little help - is resilient. The Bend Metro Park and Recreation District has hosted several Arbor Week events here over the years, and those tiny pine seedlings planted by community members are now growing into mature trees, gradually bringing back the woodland character of the space.

Established in 1982 and enhanced in 1999, Alpine Park continues to be both a recreational space and an ecologically important area for Bend residents. It shows nature's ability to recover and thrive, providing a quiet connection to the natural world right on the edge of town.
