About the Location
A Peaceful Urban Retreat
Tucked between Allen Road and Crowell Way in southwest Bend, Hixon Park is a small but mighty green oasis that brings a breath of fresh air to the urban landscape. This compact 0.3-acre space might not be sprawling, but it has a certain charm to it. The parks and recreation department maintains well-kept grounds, making it a nice spot to take a break.
At the heart of Hixon Park is a central plaza with bench seating where you can read a book or simply watch the world go by for a moment.
Artistic Touches & Natural Beauty
The park's lush turf area provides a welcome splash of green amid the city surroundings. But what really catches the eye here is the whimsical four seasons clock sculpture - an artistic centerpiece that never fails to spark curiosity and conversation among visitors.
Those with an appreciation for botanical beauty will enjoy the thoughtfully designed flower beds that dot the landscape, bringing seasonal bursts of color throughout the year and adding to the park's serene aesthetic.
Good to Know Before You Go
Hixon Park welcomes visitors daily from 5AM to 10PM. If you're driving, you'll discover four-hour street parking along the McKay district every day except Sunday. For locals and those working nearby, a $25 annual parking permit offers the convenience of all-day parking - definitely worth considering if you plan to make this spot a regular retreat.
Just a heads-up: this park is really designed as a tranquil space for adults rather than a playground for kids. You won't find swing sets or slides here, but you will discover a great setting for some quiet reflection, meditation, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment outdoors.
A Bit of History
The Bend Park & Recreation District acquired this quiet place in 1998 from Brooks Resources. The vision behind Hixon Park came from John Simpson, who not only named this urban square but also incorporated the distinctive Seasons Clock that now is its signature feature.
Its convenient location on SW Crowell Way makes it an accessible escape for nearby residents and workers - a little pocket of calm amid the bustle of daily life in Bend.
