A Step Back in Time

Found in northeast Bend, Hollinshead Park spans 16.1 acres of what was once a working ranch. Dean and Lily Hollinshead, the former owners, donated this land to the Bend Park and Recreation District, with much of its pioneer character still remaining today.

Wandering through the grounds, you'll encounter several preserved original structures that tell stories of days gone by. The renovated Hollinshead Barn is a central feature, while the tack shed and Share Croppers House (now a museum) provide glimpses into the area's agricultural heritage. Interestingly, the property once served as a USDA test farm for apple tree viability in Central Oregon - which explains those mature orchard trees you'll spot within the park.

Natural Beauty & Thoughtful Spaces

The heart of Hollinshead Park features expansive grassy fields shaded by mature trees from the original orchard. In spring, the crabapple trees burst with color, creating a picturesque setting that changes with the seasons.

You can follow the natural area walking trails that wind through the preserved landscape. There are benches tucked away in shady spots - great for a quiet moment or reading.

Green thumbs might appreciate the park's community garden and demonstration garden where locals tend to their vegetables and flowers. There's also a thoughtfully designed waterwise garden and native plants educational area that showcase sustainable landscaping practices suitable for Central Oregon's climate.

Plans include a new permanent restroom facility, ADA-compliant pathways for better accessibility, and the creation of a "History Walk" with interpretive signs that will bring the park's rich history to life.
