About the Location
Natural Setting
Sunset View Park is a small natural area located in northwest Bend, Oregon. The park spans approximately 2.5 acres and is characterized by its heavily wooded landscape, featuring mature ponderosa pine and juniper trees.
Unlike more developed parks, Sunset View Park maintains a rustic, natural setting without formal landscaping.
Trails and Exercise
The park offers a network of unpaved trails that wind through the wooded area, providing visitors with an opportunity for a quick nature escape within the city. Along these trails, simple exercise stations have been installed, allowing park-goers to incorporate fitness activities into their visit.
Connections to Other Natural Areas
Sunset View Park serves as an access point to the larger Rim Rock Natural Area and connects to the West Bend Trail, which can be accessed from the western side of the park off Lehmi Pass Drive. This connection makes the park a starting point for those looking to explore more extensive trail systems in the area.
Park History
The park was acquired in 1985 through a donation from the Bank of the Cascades and was formerly the site of a humane society property. The West Bend Property Group supported road extensions and paving to improve access to the park.
Amenities
While Sunset View Park offers a natural retreat for local residents, it is important to note that the park has minimal amenities, focusing instead on preserving the natural environment and providing basic trail and exercise opportunities.
