Turner Creek Park

Park Overview

Turner Creek Park is a 12.5-acre municipal park located in the heart of Hillsboro, Oregon. Established around 1990, the park is situated along Turner Creek near southwest 32nd Avenue, between Tualatin Valley Highway and Main Street.

Landscape Features

The park features a diverse landscape, including natural areas, wetlands, and developed recreational spaces. A small canyon runs through the western section of the park, where paved and wood chip trails lead visitors down to a boardwalk and bridge crossing Turner Creek.

This area encompasses about four acres along the creek, which has been modified to meander through the park, creating ponds and islands.

Wildlife and Flora

Turner Creek Park's natural areas have been carefully managed to support local wildlife. The park's ecosystem includes great blue herons, garter snakes, gulls, frogs, fish, and various bird species.

Flora in the park includes purple iris, sedges, nodding beggar-tick, knotweed, jewelweed, and Veronica.

Park Development

The park has undergone several improvements since its establishment. In the early 1990s, the city received donations of nearly 100 trees from a local nursery and Portland General Electric, which were planted by volunteers.

From 1993 to 1994, the parks and recreation department worked with civic groups to enhance the natural areas, consolidating trails, adding plantings, and installing birdhouses. A wildflower garden was added in 1997.
