About the Location

Park Overview

Orenco Woods Nature Park is a 42-acre nature park located in Hillsboro, Oregon. The park opened in February 2017 and is jointly owned and managed by the City of Hillsboro and Metro regional government.

The park is situated on the former site of a nine-hole golf course in the Orenco neighborhood. It features a mix of habitats including oak savanna, riparian forest along Rock Creek, and upland forest areas.

Location and Boundaries

The eastern edge of the park is bounded by Cornelius Pass Road, while the MAX Blue Line light rail tracks form the northern boundary.

Recreational Opportunities

Orenco Woods provides opportunities for walking, wildlife viewing, and connecting with nature. A network of paved and unpaved trails wind through the park, including a segment of the regional Rock Creek Trail.

Three bridges span Rock Creek, offering scenic views of the waterway. The park aims to balance recreational access with habitat restoration and protection of natural areas.

Historical Significance

The site has historical significance as part of the former Oregon Nursery Company lands. A historic house that belonged to one of the nursery's co-founders still stands in the park, though it is currently closed to the public.

The park's name references both the Orenco neighborhood and the property's past as a wooded golf course.

Amenities

In addition to its natural features, Orenco Woods includes some developed amenities concentrated in the northwest portion of the park. It provides a nature-based play area for children as well as picnic facilities.

The park is open daily from 7:30AM to 7PM.
