Drexel Square

Urban Oasis

Positioned in the corner of 30th and Market Streets in Philadelphia, Drexel Square is a 1.3-acre green space amid the city bustle. Completed in 2019, this little lush corner represents the first completed piece of the larger Schuylkill Yards development - a collaborative vision between Brandywine Realty Trust and Drexel University.

What once was just another concrete parking lot has been reimagined as a welcoming public green space. Sitting right across from Amtrak's 30th Street Station, it's an excellent spot to stretch your legs or gather your thoughts before hopping on a train or heading into the city.

Distinctive Design

The creative minds at West 8 and SHoP Architects designed this space around a beautiful 12,064-square-foot elliptical lawn that represents the heart of the park. It's a simple concept that works wonderfully as a natural gathering spot.

Circling this green oval stand 23 majestic Dawn Redwood trees, each reaching more than 25 feet toward the sky, creating a living border that softens the urban surroundings. The park's beauty is enhanced by 9,116 square feet of raised beds filled with diverse shrubs and perennials that add texture and color throughout the seasons.

Community Space

There's something rather poetic about how Drexel Square embodies William Penn's original vision of Philadelphia parks as "public rooms" - accessible spaces where people can connect with nature and each other within the urban landscape. With its thoughtful arrangement of granite paving and comfortable seating edges, the park invites you to pause and enjoy a moment of calm.

Though compact in size, the space offers just enough room for a short stroll or a quick escape from office confines. You'll find umbrella-shaded tables scattered throughout - well-suited for enjoying lunch from nearby eateries or from one of the occasional food vendors that pop up in the area.

Gateway to Schuylkill Yards

Drexel Square is a pretty park that's also a welcoming entrance to the emerging innovation district in University City. As the larger Schuylkill Yards project continues to develop, this green space provides a much-needed natural element for the area's workers, students, and residents.

Its strategic location near 30th Street Station and along the LUCY bus route makes it particularly convenient as both a meeting point and transit connection for anyone navigating the University City area.
