Tucked behind Aiken Elementary School, Green Tree Park is a breath of fresh air for sports enthusiasts and outdoor lovers alike. If you're coming from around Pittsburgh, it's pretty easy to reach via Interstate 79, the Parkway West, or Route 51.

There are several well-kept baseball/softball fields with nicely trimmed grass, plus dedicated areas for middle school soccer. It's pretty cool that Point Park University's baseball team sometimes practices and plays here - you might catch some collegiate action if you time your visit right.

Beyond the fields, you'll find a basketball court, batting cages, and an outdoor street hockey rink (dek hockey). Whether you want to shoot some hoops or practice your swing, you'll find options for different activities here.

Walking Track and Getting Around

Need to get your steps in? The park features a 1/3-mile walking track that loops around Aiken Fields. It's lighted for evening strolls, which is a nice touch when the days get shorter. The track is mostly asphalt, but heads up - some sections near certain fields are gravel.

Mornings and evenings tend to draw the most walkers, but if you prefer a quieter experience, mid-day is usually less crowded. Just note that during school hours, especially around lunchtime, the track might be closed to the public.

Got little ones? You can find two playground areas that are kept clean and in good shape. Just keep in mind that the larger playground sits on school property and isn't open to the public during school hours.

If you're planning a family gathering, the picnic pavilion comes equipped with an outdoor grill for cookouts. Water fountains are scattered within the park to keep everyone hydrated, and there are four restroom facilities, however typically only the lower ones near the gazebo stay open year-round.

For the Fur Babies

Local dog owners might appreciate the fenced dog park located behind the back ball field. One thing to know - it's exclusively for Green Tree residents and requires a borough-issued pass. And if you're walking your pup elsewhere, remember that dogs aren't allowed on the walking trails.

Community Vibes

Green Tree Park really comes alive during community events. In the warmer months, you can check out the Farmers Market on Thursday evenings, where local vendors sell fresh produce, plants, and sometimes food trucks roll up with tasty offerings.

The park occasionally hosts fall festivals complete with car shows, bounce houses, craft displays, and kids' activities. Summer evenings sometimes feature concerts that bring neighbors together under the stars.
