Recreation for Everyone

Spanning several acres in the heart of Pittsburgh, West Penn Park is a green space where locals come to unwind and play. The park offers plenty of open green space excellent for throwing a frisbee, having a picnic, or just lounging with a good book. While picnic tables are available, they're somewhat limited, so arriving early on nice days might be a good idea if you're planning a meal outdoors.

The recently renovated playground is a hit with families, featuring modern equipment that keeps the little ones entertained for hours. Kids especially love the spray feature during Pittsburgh's humid summer days - a wonderful way to cool down without a full swim. Adding a unique touch, the playground sports a charming music theme that both children and parents appreciate.

Splash and Play

When temperatures rise, the outdoor swimming pool becomes the park's main attraction. Open seasonally and run by the city's recreation department, it's a refreshing spot to escape the summer heat. Just remember to check the operating hours before heading over.

Sports enthusiasts will find plenty to love here too. Skaters can show off their moves at the dedicated skate park, while basketball players shoot hoops on the half-court. In recent years, pickleball has taken over a section of the park, drawing players of all ages to this increasingly popular sport.

West Penn Park is an important recreational space in the Polish Hill community. Throughout the year, it hosts neighborhood gatherings, seasonal celebrations, and informal meetups. Its central location makes it an accessible retreat for anyone looking to enjoy some outdoor time without leaving the city.

Note that the park doesn't have public restrooms, so plan accordingly when visiting.
