When South Carolina's famous heat kicks in, the adjacent splash pad becomes the place to be. While it might not boast the latest bells and whistles of newer water features, the fountains provide a simple, joyful way for kids to cool off and burn some energy.

One of Sims Park's standout features is its generous tree canopy. The abundant shade is truly a blessing during those scorching summer months, making outdoor time much more bearable even on hot days.

There are plenty of benches scattered across the grounds where you can sit and watch the kids play or simply enjoy a good book. The open grassy area also invites impromptu games of tag, frisbee, or whatever strikes your fancy.

While relatively compact, this well-maintained neighborhood park is a popular spot for locals in the Shandon area. It's especially well-suited for families with younger children looking for a clean, convenient outdoor space.

You'll find off-street parking available, and while the entire park isn't fenced, there is a reassuring chain fence between the road and play area to help keep the little ones safe.

The park falls under the care of Columbia's Parks and Recreation Department and welcomes visitors daily from 7AM to 9PM, with an extended closing time of 10PM on Sundays.
