About Warner Park in Chattanooga
Warner Park, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a versatile urban green space that serves as a hub for recreation and community activities. Situated near the downtown area, this sprawling park has been a fixture of the city since the late 19th century, originally established as Olympia Park around 1895. The city of Chattanooga purchased the property in 1912 and renamed it Warner Park in honor of Commissioner Joseph H. Warner.
The park encompasses a variety of facilities catering to different interests and age groups. At its core is the Warner Park Softball Complex, which includes Frost Stadium, a state-of-the-art softball facility opened in 1998. Frost Stadium, with a capacity of 3,500, ranks as the third-largest NCAA Division I softball facility in the country as of 2021. The stadium features 1,500 seats in the bleachers and an additional 800 chairback seats behind home plate, along with modern amenities such as climate-controlled locker rooms, batting cages, and bullpens.
Warner Park is also home to the Chattanooga Zoo, adding an educational and entertainment component to the park's offerings. Visitors can enjoy the Warner Park Pool and the "Spray and Play" splash pad, which features 19 water-friendly elements for summer recreation. The park's landscape includes walking and jogging paths, providing opportunities for exercise and leisurely strolls.
In recent years, Warner Park has undergone updates to enhance its facilities. As of May 2023, Frost Stadium received improvements including an all-turf field, new lighting systems, and a modern video scoreboard, further cementing its status as a premier softball venue.
The park's location along a major bus route and its ample parking for both cars and bikes make it easily accessible to residents and visitors alike. Its diverse array of amenities has transformed Warner Park into a multi-use urban park that serves as a centerpiece for community recreation in Chattanooga.
