About Coolidge Park in Chattanooga
Coolidge Park is a 13-acre public green space located along the Tennessee River in Chattanooga's Northshore neighborhood. Named after Charles Coolidge, a World War II Medal of Honor recipient from Chattanooga, the park opened in 1999 as part of a riverfront revitalization effort.
A central feature of Coolidge Park is its restored 100-year-old carousel. The antique Dentzel carousel, originally built in 1894, contains 52 hand-carved animals and is housed in a glass enclosure. Nearby, an interactive play fountain provides a popular spot for children to splash and play during warm weather months.
The park offers expansive grassy areas suitable for picnics, relaxation, and recreational activities. A pavilion on the grounds can be used for events and gatherings. For more active visitors, there is a 50-foot climbing wall attached to one of the support pillars of the adjacent Walnut Street Bridge.
Coolidge Park connects to the Tennessee Riverwalk, a 13-mile paved trail along the river. The park's location on the riverfront provides scenic views of the water and downtown Chattanooga across the river. It has become a popular venue for community events, concerts, and festivals throughout the year.
