About Claude Walker Park in Knoxville
Claude Walker Park and Ballfields is a recreational facility located in East Knoxville, Tennessee. The park spans approximately 4 acres and is situated adjacent to the Dr. E.V. Davidson Community Center and Austin-East Magnet High School.
In May 2022, the park underwent significant renovations thanks to a $1.6 million investment from GEM Community Development Group. These upgrades were aimed at enhancing youth baseball and softball facilities in the city. The renovations included the installation of new synthetic turf on both fields, allowing for both baseball and softball play.
The park features two ballfields of different sizes - one measuring 210 feet and the other 190 feet. Both fields are equipped with lighting, enabling evening games and practices. The renovation project also included the construction of new dugouts, scoreboards, field fence mesh, and foul poles.
A notable addition to the park was a newly constructed 25' x 70' covered batting cage with a turf floor. The central building housing concessions, restrooms, and on-site storage was also renovated as part of the project.
Claude Walker Park has been an important part of the East Knoxville community for many years. It serves not only as a venue for community recreation programs but also as the home field for Austin-East Magnet High School's teams. The park has been managed by William Anderson for over three decades, highlighting its long-standing presence in the community.
The recent renovations have transformed Claude Walker Park into a modern sports facility, aiming to increase access to quality sports amenities and bring people together in the East Knoxville area.
