About the Location
A Hidden Neighborhood Favorite
Tucked away behind houses in Knoxville's historic North Hills neighborhood sits a charming little green space that's easy to miss if you're just driving by. North Hills Park, established in 1927, might be small at just 0.74 acres, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in character and community significance.
From Football Field to Community Treasure
Back in the 1960s, this spot was mostly a vacant lot where neighborhood kids would gather for impromptu football games. The space was a practice field where neighborhood kids got their first taste of touch football with live blocking. Though the park has evolved over the decades, generations of Knoxville residents have built memories here.
Take a Stroll
If you're looking for a quick outdoor escape, the North Hills Greenway offers a paved walking trail that loops around the park's perimeter. At about 0.4 miles long, it's great for a casual walk, a brisk run, or pushing a stroller through the neighborhood. Nothing fancy - just a simple path that lets you enjoy some fresh air without venturing far from home.
What You'll Find
At the heart of the park sits a swing set, surrounded by open grassy areas excellent for a picnic blanket or a good book. Several dogwood trees dot the landscape, adding a touch of natural beauty that changes with the seasons.
Need a spot for lunch? The park offers picnic tables and a gazebo that provides welcome shade during those warm Tennessee days.
A Neighborhood Sanctuary
Maintained by the City of Knoxville's Parks and Recreation Department, North Hills Park is a quiet retreat for residents of this established community. It's not a destination with bells and whistles, but rather a simple, peaceful spot where neighbors can connect with nature and each other without straying far from their doorsteps.
