About the Location
Park Overview
Set in Knoxville, Tennessee, West View Park offers over 5 acres of green space where locals can catch their breath from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This nearby retreat might not be the biggest park around, but it offers a refreshing dose of nature right in the middle of the city.
The West View Greenway winds through the park in a series of paved loops, meant for your morning jog, afternoon stroll, or daily step count. The paths enjoy decent tree cover, but you'll want to watch your step in a few spots where the pavement has seen better days.
Amenities and Features
Since September 2022, kids and book-loving adults alike have been enjoying the park's storybook trail, created in partnership with the Knox County Public Library. It combines outdoor time with a sprinkle of literacy - nice for families looking to mix learning with fresh air.
Need a spot for lunch or a small gathering? The park offers two covered pavilions with picnic tables, including one area specifically set up with grills for those impromptu cookouts. These shelters provide welcome shade during those scorching Tennessee summer days.
As for facilities, there's a portable toilet on-site, but no permanent restrooms - something to keep in mind if you're planning an extended visit.
Recreation Opportunities
The playground area isn't enormous, but it's got the classics - swings, slides, and climbing equipment that will keep the little ones entertained. Just a heads-up: most of the equipment sits in direct sunlight, so during summer, it might be hot enough to fry an egg (or at least make small hands uncomfortable).
Beyond the playground, open grassy areas invite impromptu frisbee games or simply lounging with a good book. And yes, your four-legged friends are welcome too - the paved paths make for pleasant dog-friendly walks, just remember to bring those waste bags.
Accessibility Information
The small parking lot shows its age a bit, so take it slow when pulling in. If it's full, you'll discover street parking nearby isn't too difficult to snag.
A word of caution: several visitors have mentioned feeling uneasy in the park after dark. It's probably best to plan your visit during daylight hours, and if possible, bring a friend along.
Future Developments
Exciting changes are on the horizon for West View Park! Plans are in the works to connect its greenway with the Middlebrook and Liberty Street Greenways, which will eventually link up with the Third Creek Greenway as well.
These connections will transform West View from a standalone park into a vital piece of Knoxville's growing green network - something local outdoor enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to.
