About Sharp Ridge Memorial Park in Knoxville
Sharp's Ridge Veterans Memorial Park is a 156.65-acre park located in North Knoxville, Tennessee. Situated atop Sharp's Ridge, the park offers panoramic views of Knoxville's skyline and the distant Smoky Mountains. The park was dedicated in 1953 to honor the area's war veterans.
The park features approximately 7 miles of trails, including 4.7 miles of multi-use trails that wind through wooded hills, suitable for hiking and mountain biking. For more experienced mountain bikers, there is a 0.6-mile downhill-only trail. In 2020, two adaptive mountain bike trails were added: the North Ridge Loop Trail (rated AMTB 1) and the Independence Trail (rated AMTB 2).
Sharp's Ridge is known for its excellent bird-watching opportunities, particularly during spring migration. The Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society frequently conducts bird-watching hikes in the park.
In 2021, an additional 42 acres on the north side of the ridge was donated by Legacy Parks Foundation, expanding the park's offerings. This new area, accessible from Tiberius Road, includes parking facilities, a playground, and a trailhead.
The park's trails are well-maintained by the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club and are noted for their ability to drain well in wet conditions, making them suitable for use in various weather conditions.
