About the Location
Trail Experience
Ten Mile Creek Greenway cuts through Knoxville, Tennessee, offering a calm respite from the urban landscape. Though its name might suggest otherwise, this linear park actually spans about 1.9 miles of smooth asphalt path that's become a favorite escape for locals looking to jog, cycle, walk their dogs, or even rollerblade away from city stresses.
The well-maintained trail offers a surprisingly peaceful setting where you can breathe a little deeper and maybe spot some local birds and wildlife along the way. It's designed to welcome everyone - bring the kids, bring the dog, and find your own pace here.
Finding Your Way
You can find the trailhead tucked away at the east end of the Carmike Wynnsong Theater parking lot. From there, the path ducks under Interstate 40 (a brief reminder of the city you're escaping) before emerging into a more natural setting.
After crossing Bridgewater Road, you'll enter what feels like another world - the densely wooded section of Ten Mile Greenway Park, where trees create a natural canopy over much of the path. While some portions do run alongside streets, plenty of secluded wooded stretches offer a refreshing disconnect from urban life.
Where Paths Meet
When you reach Walker Springs Park, you'll face a choice as the trail splits. Head northwest toward Kidder Lane, or continue eastward, crossing Walker Springs Road and passing beneath North Galleher View Road.
The eastern route eventually connects with the Cavel Station Greenway just south of Broome Road. Both are threads in the larger tapestry of the Knoxville Greenway system - perfect if you're looking to extend your adventure.
Getting There & Around
The greenway creates a natural connection between city and county boundaries, offering a scenic corridor for both recreation and car-free transportation.
Walker Spring Park functions as an excellent launching point for your greenway experience, featuring a 0.3-mile connector trail that joins the main path. The park offers parking, making it a convenient place to start your journey.
Take a Break
When you need to rest, you can find picnic areas with plenty of seating options scattered across the park - excellent for a packed lunch or a quick snack break. Restrooms are available near the tennis courts, but it's always good to check if they're open before counting on them.
If you're bringing little ones, the small playground provides a welcome energy-burning station. For those seeking a bit more solitude, several off-the-beaten paths branch from the main trail, offering quiet spots to read, relax, or even hang a hammock among the trees.
