About the Location

History

Cobb Park spans approximately 14 acres in Abilene, Texas. The park has a rich history dating back to 1919, when H.H. Cobb and Susie Cobb from Fort Worth donated six lots of land to develop a public park.

Over the years, Cobb Park has seen various additions and improvements. In the 1950s, a covered pavilion was added. The recreation center itself was built in 1961, followed by an activity building in 1962. A playground was installed in 1967 and later renovated in 2012.

Recreation Opportunities

The Cobb Recreation Center has served as a community hub, offering various programs and activities for residents of all ages. It has hosted summer camps, winter camps, and after-school programs.

The center has also been used for diverse activities such as country western dancing classes, dog training sessions, and improvisation groups from the nearby Dyess Air Force Base.

Recent Developments

In recent years, the park has continued to evolve to meet community needs. In 2023, a disc golf course was installed, adding to the recreational options available to visitors.
