Vaughn Camp Park

A Bit of History

Tucked away on the south side of Abilene, Texas, you can find Vaughn Camp Park, a 12.7-acre green oasis that's been serving the community since June 12, 1958. The park came to life thanks to the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Camp and Mrs. Ora E. Vaughn (hence the name). Later on, the City of Abilene purchased additional land to make the park even more spacious.

Vaughn Camp Park offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It features open green spaces and recreational facilities that visitors of all ages can appreciate.

Situated on Robertson Drive, it's super accessible if you're coming from southern Abilene. One of its most charming features is the adjacent lake, which adds a touch of serenity to your park experience.

Places to Play

Kids will love the recently remodeled playground. It's primarily designed for the 5-12 age group, although the little ones can join in on the fun with some adult supervision.

If you're more into sports, the park offers a tennis court and a basketball court (with one hoop). There's plenty of open space too, making it fantastic for a game of frisbee or letting your four-legged friend run around and burn some energy.

Picnic Paradise

Feeling hungry? Head over to the picnic area where you'll find four tables and two small BBQ pits. It's a nice spot for family gatherings or simply enjoying lunch outdoors.

Growth and Changes

The park has seen its fair share of improvements over the years. Back in the 1980s, the Abilene Realtors Association stepped in to help develop the playground area.

Since then, the City of Abilene has continued to take good care of the park, with notable renovations to the playground and additions of new amenities in 2001.

You can visit Vaughn Camp Park daily from 5:30 AM until midnight - plenty of time to enjoy all it has to offer!

One of the best things about this park? It's usually not too crowded, giving you the space and tranquility to really unwind. The well-maintained grounds and spacious layout have made it a beloved spot for locals in the know.
