About the Location
What You'll Find Here
Located in Arlington, Texas is California Lane Park, a 10-acre neighborhood green space that sits right across from Short Elementary School. This little pocket of nature offers plenty of ways to spend an afternoon outdoors.
A 0.21-mile hike and bike trail winds through the park, well-suited for a quick jog or leisurely stroll. During summer months, the park's sprayground (splash pad) becomes the star attraction, with water features that keep kids cool until sunset. Nothing beats watching little ones splash around when Texas temperatures start climbing!
There's also a pavilion that you can reserve for gatherings if you're planning something special. Just keep in mind there's a 35-person cap on reservations (that includes everyone - adults and kids). No reservation? No problem. The pavilion works on a first-come basis when not booked and comes equipped with shaded picnic tables and a large grill for cookouts.
Places to Play
Kids have plenty of options here with two playground structures - one designed for the little tots and another for older, more adventurous climbers. Parents will appreciate that both play areas are shaded, making afternoon playdates much more comfortable even in the summer heat.
Sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten. The park features a half basketball court for pickup games, a practice field for various activities, and two sand volleyball courts where you can bump, set, and spike to your heart's content.
The open green spaces scattered throughout are fantastic for picnicking, with additional tables nestled under trees and equipped with standard-sized grills. One unique feature that sets this park apart is its small stage - a great spot for impromptu performances or community gatherings.
Natural Touches
One of the park's highlights is a pond with a fishing pier where you can try your luck with a fishing rod. Keep your eyes peeled for turtles that call the pond home - they're frequent visitors according to locals. Walking paths surround the water, creating a peaceful setting for an evening stroll.
The spacious central field provides ample room for throwing a frisbee, playing fetch with your four-legged friend, or just spreading out a blanket to enjoy the surroundings. These natural elements make California Lane Park a tranquil retreat within the neighborhood.
Comfort and Convenience
You can find restroom facilities housed in brick buildings near the water area and playground - an essential feature when spending hours at the park with family.
Thoughtfully placed benches throughout the grounds offer comfortable seating with clear views of the splash pad, playground, and basketball court, making it easy to keep an eye on the kids while they explore different activities.
The park is generally well-maintained and clean, but it's worth noting that parking is quite limited. Plan accordingly, especially if you're visiting during peak times or for special events.
