The Story Behind the Park

Clarence Thompson Park bears the name of Clarence Thompson, a local developer who left his mark on Arlington by building over 100 homes and the Coronado Square Shopping Center. Beyond his building legacy, Thompson dedicated 12 years to the Planning & Zoning Commission and was active on various community boards.

Fresh Look for 2023

The park got a serious facelift in 2023, breathing new life into its facilities. Kids now enjoy brand-new playground equipment specifically designed for the 5-12 crowd and the little ones aged 2-5.

The renovation didn't stop at replacing swings for both age groups. It also introduced some cool additions like musical instruments (yes, outdoor ones!), several standalone play features, upgraded safety surfacing, and better drainage to keep things dry after those Texas downpours.

Neighborhood Vibes

Positioned in one of Arlington's more established neighborhoods, this park offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle. With its location on Brown Boulevard and rolling terrain, it's become something of a favorite for runners looking to add some hill work to their training routes.

The park features a canopy of large shade trees that blanket the grounds. These leafy giants provide much-needed shelter from the Texas sun and create a naturally inviting atmosphere.

Get Moving

The park offers space for both active sports and children's play. There's a practice field suitable for casual soccer games, plus plenty of open green space for kite flying, frisbee tossing, or good old-fashioned tag.

The playground area cleverly separates equipment by age group, offering age-appropriate challenges for both younger and older children. Parents will appreciate that parts of the playground sit under shade, making afternoon play possible even during warmer months.

The Little Things

You'll come across several picnic tables scattered about, most thoughtfully placed under those magnificent shade trees. There are also standalone benches for when you just want to sit and watch the world go by, plus at least one grill for those who want to cook up some outdoor eats.

The park is well-equipped with waste bins throughout, and dog owners will appreciate the pet waste stations complete with bags. Your four-legged friends are welcome on leashes, but there's no designated off-leash area.

Note that you won't find public restrooms or water fountains here, so it's best to come prepared. The park maintains a clean, well-kept appearance that makes it a natural gathering spot for families in the area.
