About the Location

Recreational Amenities

Set in Arlington, Texas, Mary and Jimmie Hooper Park is a charming public space where locals come to unwind and play. The park offers several outdoor options within its modest grounds.

Kids will love the playground area, which features recently updated equipment well-suited for little ones who've mastered walking. We appreciate how the playground thoughtfully separates areas for younger and older children, giving each age group their own space to explore and burn off energy.

Sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten either. There's a basketball court where you can shoot some hoops or join in on a spontaneous game. Baseball fans can take advantage of the baseball field with its gated backstop - meant for everything from casual batting practice to more organized games.

The park also offers plenty of open green space that often hosts informal soccer and football games. It's nice to have a park that adapts to whatever sport you're in the mood for.

Natural Features & Trails

The park's pond might be our favorite feature, especially with its decorative fountain that creates a soothing backdrop of gentle splashing sounds. Keep your eyes peeled for the resident ducks and turtles that call the pond home - they're quite entertaining to watch!

Wrapping around the pond and through some nicely shaded areas is a paved trail that's excellent for a morning jog or an evening stroll. The trail is impressively level, making it friendly for strollers and those using mobility aids.

As you make your way around, you'll likely spot squirrels darting about and various birds flitting between trees. Several smaller side trails branch off from the main loop, offering little adventures for those wanting to explore further.

Facilities for Gatherings

If you're planning a get-together, you'll find multiple picnic areas with tables distributed around the grounds. For larger events, there's a pavilion overlooking the pond with electrical outlets - you can reserve it for special occasions.

Fancy a cookout? Grills are available across the park. The mix of shady spots, open areas, and plenty of seating makes this a natural choice for family reunions or casual meetups with friends.

We're happy to report that the park is well-maintained, with plenty of trash cans and dog waste stations complete with bag dispensers. It's always nice when a park makes it easy to clean up after yourself (and your four-legged friends).

Visitor Information

You'll come across parking conveniently located near both the playground and pavilion, so you won't have to lug your gear too far. One of the nice things about this park is that it rarely feels crowded - it's a peaceful alternative to Arlington's busier green spaces.

The park welcomes visitors daily from 5AM to 10PM. One important thing to note: there are no public restrooms available here, which is definitely something to keep in mind if you're planning to visit with young children.

Mary and Jimmie Hooper Park may not be the biggest park in Arlington, but its blend of recreational facilities, natural elements, and gathering spaces offers something for most visitors.
