About the Location

Lakeside Escape

Tucked along the shores of Lake Arlington in Arlington, Texas, Richard Simpson Park spans a cozy 9 acres of lakefront real estate. This intimate park is one of just two Arlington parks offering public access to the lake, making it something of a local treasure for water lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The park offers a nice blend of serene green space and lake views that can make even a hectic day feel manageable. The sunlight reflecting across the water is particularly nice during sunset hours when colors reflect off the lake's surface.

Splash Into Adventure

At the heart of what makes this park special is its well-maintained boat ramp, giving you easy access to all that Lake Arlington has to offer. Whether you're launching a fishing boat or getting your jet ski ready, the multi-lane ramp provides good access to the lake.

Feeling a bit more low-key? The park connects to a 10-mile paddling trail that's great for kayaking and canoeing adventures. You can take your time exploring the shoreline at your own pace, watching the world go by one paddle stroke at a time.

Angler's Delight

Fishing enthusiasts will find good opportunities here. The park's position on Lake Arlington creates prime fishing conditions, with floating docks that put you right where the action is.

The lake is swimming with bass, catfish, and striped bass, making it an excellent spot whether you're a seasoned angler or just trying to figure out which end of the fishing pole is which. Early mornings and evenings tend to yield the best catches, but you'll spot dedicated fishermen trying their luck at all hours - some even casting lines well after sunset.

Wildlife Watching

The shoreline comes alive with the constant presence of ducks and geese that call this place home. There's something peaceful about watching these waterfowl go about their business, gliding across the water or waddling along the shore. If you're bringing kids along, watching these birds can be a highlight (just remember to bring proper bird food instead of bread if you plan to feed them).

This spot provides a nice escape from city life without having to travel far. The sounds of waves and bird calls can make you forget you're still in the metroplex.

On Solid Ground

Not a water person? No problem. The park offers plenty of open, grassy areas ideal for tossing a frisbee, having a picnic, or simply lounging with a good book.

The picnic areas come equipped with tables and grills, making outdoor meals a breeze. Covered pavilions with about 20 tables offer much-needed shade during those scorching Texas summer days. The grilling stations mean you can cook up a proper feast while enjoying the lake views - well-suited for family gatherings or casual weekend hangs.

The Practical Stuff

You'll come across restroom facilities in the main community building, plus portable toilets near the docks for when nature calls. The grounds are kept nice and tidy, with good lighting for those early morning fishing trips or evening strolls.

There's ample parking available, though you'll want to arrive early on weekends if you're hoping to snag a spot close to the boat ramp. The park welcomes visitors from 5 AM to 10 PM daily, although the unofficial night fishing scene suggests not everyone sticks strictly to those hours.

Coming Soon

Exciting changes are underway with a Phase II project that's set to add some great new features. Look forward to a dedicated fishing pier and a nature-themed playground that will make this park even more family-friendly.

During the renovations, you might find some areas roped off, but the boat ramp and fishing spots are still going strong. Once the dust settles on these improvements, Richard Simpson Park will offer even more reasons to spend your free time lakeside.
