About the Location
Historic Origins
Monticello Park is a public park located in the Monticello neighborhood of west Fort Worth, Texas. The park was developed in the late 1920s as part of the Monticello Addition, a residential development by the Monticello Land Company.
Spanning approximately 4.5 acres, Monticello Park was designed by the landscape architecture firm Hare and Hare of Kansas City, Missouri. In December 1928, the Monticello Land Company donated the land to the city of Fort Worth for use as a public park.
Development and Funding
In 1929, the park's development was supported by a $2,000 grant from the William E. Harmon Foundation of New York City. This grant, given to the Monticello Land Company and then transferred to the city's recreation board, funded the construction of tennis courts and a playground, as well as general beautification work.
Current Amenities
Today, Monticello Park continues to serve as a neighborhood green space, retaining some of its original features like tennis courts and a playground. The park provides residents with a place for recreation and relaxation within the urban environment of Fort Worth.
