Park Overview

Lon Wynne Park spans a generous 16.9 acres on West Centerville Road in Garland, Texas, about 1.5 miles northeast of Interstate 635. Only 4.2 acres are developed, leaving the rest as natural wooded spaces and trails that provide a quiet buffer within the urban environment.

This peaceful neighborhood retreat has earned a reputation for being wonderfully quiet and family-friendly. If you're a dog parent, you'll appreciate the dog-friendly trails where your furry friend can sniff and explore to their heart's content.

Playground Amenities

Kids gravitate toward the park's playground, which features an upgraded slide and a hexagonal net with attached swinging tires that children enjoy. A newer addition, the surface spinner, welcomes residents of all ages and abilities - making this a place where everyone can join in the fun.

On hot Texas days, the recently installed splashpad becomes the main attraction, running from May 15 through October 5. Just a heads-up: the playground area doesn't offer much shade, so those slides and metal surfaces can get seriously hot during summer months. Maybe bring a towel to test equipment temperatures before letting little ones climb aboard.

Recreation Facilities

If you're looking to get some steps in, there's a 0.3-mile paved trail that loops through the park - ideal for a quick jog or leisurely stroll. Basketball enthusiasts can shoot some hoops at the basketball/multi-purpose court, while those seeking a more relaxed experience can unwind at one of the picnic areas. The park's shelter provides a shaded spot for outdoor meals or simply taking a breather.

The creek area that meanders through part of the property adds a soothing natural element to your visit, especially when walking through the wooded sections. There's something inherently calming about being near water, even in a neighborhood park.

Lon Wynne Park got a nice refresh in September 2023 as part of a bond project, bringing various enhancements to its facilities. The layout effectively uses the available space, balancing developed recreational areas with the natural landscape.
