About the Location
Escape to Nature's Playground
Positioned in Irving, Texas, Fritz Park has been offering a breath of fresh air since 1984. This spacious public park offers a nice balance - well-maintained enough to feel comfortable, yet natural enough to provide a break from the city. When we walk through here, it genuinely feels like we've stumbled into a little wilderness retreat.
Disc Golf Under the Canopy
If you're into disc golf, you're in for a treat. The 18-hole course here winds mostly flat beneath a canopy of tall trees, providing welcome shade during those scorching Texas afternoons. Don't let the flat terrain fool you though - a deep creek and the considerable length of some holes keep things interesting even for seasoned players.
Budget between 1.5 to 2.5 hours to complete the full course. Those water hazards will test your nerve (and possibly claim a disc or two if you're having an off day), making this course popular among local disc golf enthusiasts.
Get Your Game On
Beyond disc golf, Fritz Park offers solid options for sports lovers. You'll come across well-kept baseball and softball fields, plus basketball facilities for when you're feeling competitive. Just note that the baseball fields don't have lighting, so plan your games before sunset.
Prefer something more low-key? The jogging path circling the park makes for a peaceful walk or run. The path winds through natural settings where you'll likely spot some of the park's residents - the squirrels here are practically local celebrities, darting about in impressive numbers.
Make Some Four-Legged Friends
A notable feature of Fritz Park is its Animal Connection Experience, complete with a petting farm. Here you can get up close with goats, chickens, rabbits, deer, and sheep - a hit with kids who might be meeting farm animals for the first time.
The animal area really comes alive during October weekends with special fall festivities. The pumpkin patch, hay maze, and - our personal favorite - the pig races turn an ordinary park visit into a memorable autumn outing.
Natural Beauty Spots
The park's lake or stream adds a tranquil element to your visit, creating peaceful spots to sit and reflect. Families often gather here for the simple pleasure of feeding ducks (though remember to bring bird-friendly food if you plan to join in).
Scattered throughout are several picnic areas with tables that make this a great spot for a family lunch, birthday celebration, or just enjoying a sandwich in the shade. Parents appreciate the sheltered areas that provide comfortable vantage points to watch their children play.
Kid-Approved Play Areas
The playground is clean, spacious, and well-maintained. No broken swings or wobbly equipment to worry about, making it a safe space for children to burn off energy while you take a well-deserved break.
The restroom facilities are generally kept in decent condition with toilet paper stocked - though like most park bathrooms, they can vary day to day. Beyond the formal play areas, the generous open grassy spaces invite impromptu games of catch, frisbee, or whatever sport strikes your fancy.
Bring Your Four-Legged Friends
Your dogs are welcome to join the adventure at Fritz Park, provided they stay leashed. The walking trails and open spaces offer plenty of opportunities for your furry friends to explore new smells and get their daily exercise alongside you.
