Located in the heart of Wichita Falls, Texas, Lucy Park spans an impressive 176 acres within a gentle bend of the Wichita River. The park's landscape is dotted with mature pecan trees, cottonwoods, and a mix of native and introduced species that create a verdant escape from city life. There's something deeply refreshing about wandering through these expansive green spaces - like finding a lush oasis in the middle of urban Texas.

Scenic Waterfall

The man-made waterfall is a notable feature of Lucy Park. Built in 1987, it pays homage to the city's original falls that succumbed to flooding back in the 1800s. The 54-foot cascade creates a mesmerizing display that you can appreciate from within the park or catch glimpses of while driving along I-44 as it crosses the Wichita River. It's just a short walk from the main parking areas, but we'll warn you that the signage could be better. Note that the water flow changes with the seasons, so timing your visit might affect your experience.

Trails and Recreation

A paved 1.7 mile trail loops around the park, connecting to the broader Circle Trail system that weaves throughout Wichita Falls. The paths accommodate leisurely strolls, jogging, or bike riding. Don't miss the charming suspension bridge crossing the creek - it adds a touch of adventure to your park exploration.

Wildlife Habitat

The park's substantial duck pond functions as home to various waterfowl, with ducks and geese paddling about year-round. If you keep your eyes peeled, you might also spot turtles sunning themselves, squirrels darting between trees, or diverse bird species flitting around. In summer, the pond transforms when lily pads grow to the size of dinner plates, creating a scene straight out of a storybook.

River Bend Nature Center

Within Lucy Park's boundaries, the River Bend Nature Center occupies 15 acres dedicated to nature exhibits and educational programs. This center complements the park's already rich natural environment, making it an even more worthwhile destination for anyone visiting Wichita Falls.
