About the Location

A Natural Campus Retreat

The Bertrand F. Harrison Arboretum and Botany Pond is a small urban oasis located on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. The pond and surrounding gardens feature native plants from both eastern and western regions of the United States.

The arboretum is named after Bertrand F. Harrison, a botany professor at BYU who retired in 1974.

Landscape Features

A brick path winds through the garden, allowing visitors to observe the diverse plant life and wildlife. The pond is home to ducks and turtles, making it a popular spot for both students and local families.

Originally, the trees in the arboretum were planted to reflect the geography of the United States, with species chosen to represent different regions.

Location and Facilities

Situated at the south edge of the BYU campus, near the intersection of 800 North and 400 East, the Botany Pond provides a peaceful retreat from the bustle of university life.

The site also features an amphitheater, which was donated by BYU's classes of 1980 and 1981, offering a space for outdoor gatherings and events.

Educational Value

The Botany Pond and surrounding arboretum serve as both an educational resource for botany students and a relaxing green space for the community.

Visitors can enjoy observing local wildlife, studying plant species, or simply taking a quiet moment in nature.
