Park Overview

Tucked between Dale and Reed Streets in Alexandria's Arlandria neighborhood, Hume Springs Park is a cozy little green space spanning just 0.53 acres. Despite its modest size, this neighborhood park offers a variety of features within its small footprint.

The park has roots going back to the Hume Estate, with the land being gifted to Alexandria in 1951 for everyone to enjoy.

What makes this park particularly interesting is its Civil War connection. The ground you're walking on once housed two Union Camp sites - the 1st and 2nd Ohio Militia Camp in the northern section and the 1st and 3rd New Jersey Militia in the southern part.

If you're a history buff, it's interesting to consider that archaeological traces of these encampments might still exist beneath the park grounds.

Recent Upgrades

The park was updated in 2015 with a playground renovation. This improvement came through a partnership between the RunningBrooke non-profit organization and Alexandria, helping to create better recreational options for folks living nearby.

Community Connection

The City of Alexandria maintains the grounds, with additional TLC coming from the Hume Springs Citizens' Association, who've adopted the park and help look after it. It's open daily from 6AM to 7:30PM, providing outdoor space for the local community.
