Tucked away in North Old Town Alexandria, Rivergate City Park offers 2.84 acres of waterfront tranquility. Part of Alexandria's linear park system along the water, this serene location provides a wonderful breath of fresh air when you need to escape the city buzz.

While the Rivergate Owners Association holds ownership of most of the park, they've graciously granted permanent public access to the waterfront - a little piece of serenity that feels like a well-kept secret.

Picture-Perfect Views

Nestled among townhouses, this park offers some truly stunning Potomac River vistas. Located at the end of Montgomery Street, it's easily reachable yet maintains that tucked-away feeling that makes it special.

The view is particularly beautiful during sunset when the river reflects the changing colors of the sky. The panoramic views here are worth the visit alone, transforming an ordinary evening into something memorable.

What To Do

The park offers plenty of open green spaces excellent for spreading out a blanket or tossing a frisbee. Paved and unpaved walking paths wind along the waterfront, ideal for a morning jog or an evening stroll when the day cools down.

Feeling a bit more energetic? The well-maintained volleyball court offers a chance to get active with friends or family. Otherwise, numerous benches dot the landscape, inviting you to sit awhile and watch the river flow by.

The park's layout naturally creates both sunny spots and shaded retreats under trees. Many locals bring towels or blankets to lounge on the grass with a good book or simply to soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

Dog owners and families particularly appreciate the welcoming environment here. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the Tall Ship Providence sailing by - a charming historic vessel that adds to the riverside charm.

Good To Know

The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 8PM. If you enjoy fishing or simply watching boats navigate the Potomac (with the occasional airplane soaring overhead), you've found your spot.

Note that there are no public restrooms within the park boundaries. The closest facilities can be found in shops further up the street or in the Old Town waterfront area.
