About the Location

A Park with Purpose

Situated on North Henry Street in Alexandria, Judy Guse-Noritake Park is a green space with a meaningful backstory. Until recently known as Braddock Neighborhood Interim Open Space (not exactly a name that rolls off the tongue), this park was rechristened on June 10, 2024, to honor a true local hero.

Judy Guse-Noritake wasn't just any Alexandria resident. Before her passing in 2022 at 68, she poured two decades of her life into serving on the Park & Recreation Commission. Her work on environmental policy helped shape many green spaces across Alexandria - this park now bears her name.

What You'll Find Here

The park has a simple layout. A grassy area with shade trees provides a break from the surrounding urban environment. Several picnic tables are scattered throughout, good for lunch or meeting up with friends.

If you're feeling a bit more active, there's a surprisingly nice selection of outdoor games. Challenge your friends to a match at the bocce court, show off your skills at the ping pong table, or try your hand at the horseshoe toss. Just remember to bring your own equipment - the park provides the spaces, but not the gear.

Community Roots

It's worth noting that renaming this space wasn't a top-down decision. Local groups like the Braddock Lofts Homeowners Association and the Braddock Metro Citizens' Coalition rallied behind the idea - showing the community's appreciation for Guse-Noritake's work.

Good to Know

The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM until 9PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy this thoughtfully designed space that embodies its namesake's environmental values.

Four-Legged Friends Welcome

Dog owners take note: This park has become an unofficial gathering spot for dogs and their owners. The open layout provides space for dogs to exercise and socialize under the shade trees.
