Buckroe Beach and Park
About Buckroe Beach and Park
Beach Features
Buckroe Beach and Park offers a lovely 3/4-mile stretch of sandy shoreline along the Chesapeake Bay. As you walk the beach, you'll be treated to sweeping panoramic views of the bay - excellent for swimming, sunbathing, or just hunting for interesting shells along the shore.
The beach receives regular maintenance, providing generally safe swimming conditions and clean sand. During summer, lifeguards keep watch over the waters, adding an extra layer of safety. Unlike the crashing waves of ocean beaches, the water here tends to be calmer, making it a great spot if you're bringing little ones along.
Park Amenities
Right next to the beach runs a paved boardwalk that's well-suited for a morning jog or a sunset stroll while taking in those gorgeous bay views. If you prefer grass between your toes, there are plenty of grassy areas ideal for spreading out a blanket and relaxing.
Planning a get-together? The park has several pavilions with picnic tables that you can reserve ahead of time. There are also charcoal grills available if you're in the mood for a proper cookout.
After a day in the sand, you'll appreciate the outdoor showers and rinse stations scattered within the park - a handy way to wash off before heading back to your car.
Playground and Recreation
Exciting changes are happening at the park's playground, which is undergoing a complete renovation (as of 2025). The new design promises to be more inclusive and accessible, creating a better play environment for kids of all ages and abilities.
If you're looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy the view, check out the comfortable bench-style swings along the boardwalk. They face the Chesapeake Bay, offering a peaceful place to sit and watch the waves. For those feeling a bit more active, there's a beach volleyball area where you can bump, set, and spike to your heart's content.

Fishing Opportunities
If fishing is your thing, head over to the nearby Buckroe Fishing Pier that stretches out into the Chesapeake Bay. It's known as a prime spot for catching various fish, with cobia being a particularly sought-after prize.
Even if you don't fish, the pier offers picnic tables where you can sit and enjoy the panoramic water views.
Events and Community Activities
The park comes alive with community events and concerts held at the stage pavilion during the year. During warmer months, a farmers market pops up every other Saturday, where you can browse fresh produce and handcrafted goods from local vendors.
These gatherings really highlight how the park is a hub for community connection and entertainment.
History and Community Role
The park's roots stretch back to the early 20th century when it first developed as a popular resort destination. Today, both locals and visitors come here to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay.
Visitor Information
One nice perk? Free parking is available near the beach, however you'll want to arrive early on summer weekends and holidays as spaces fill up quickly.
You'll come across clean restrooms within the park. During summer, multiple facilities are open to accommodate the crowds, with some closing during the quieter off-season months.
Dog owners take note: while your four-legged friends are welcome in the park year-round, they're only allowed on the beach during the off-season (September 16 to May 14). Keep them leashed at all times.
Be aware that the park has specific rules in place to keep things clean and safe for everyone, including restrictions on alcohol.
The park is open daily from 7AM to 7PM, with the beach itself closing at sunset.
