Mill Point Park
About Mill Point Park
A Riverside Retreat
Nestled in downtown Hampton, Virginia, Mill Point Park is a charming waterfront green space that offers a little slice of tranquility along the Hampton River. As you wander through this scenic spot, you'll be treated to lovely views of the waterway, boats drifting by, and local wildlife going about their day.
When it's not hosting one of the many community events that call this park home, you'll find a peaceful atmosphere that's meant for sitting by the water with a good book, sipping your morning coffee, or simply taking a moment to breathe and reflect.
Plan Your Visit
The park offers plenty of open areas and tree-shaded benches where you can relax while taking in the waterfront views right in the heart of Downtown Hampton. Getting here is a breeze with free parking available either on the street or in the adjacent Eaton Street Parking Garage.
You can find the grounds well-maintained and clean, with several shade trees scattered throughout to provide welcome relief on those warm Virginia days. If you're feeling adventurous, there's even a kayak launch area where you can get out on the water.
Happenings & Features
During events, the stage and amphitheater seating create a nice backdrop for intimate concerts, weddings, and cultural celebrations.
The park's design includes controlled access points and electrical service, which works well for hosting various festivals. Year-round, you might catch the lively Blackbeard Pirate Festival (yes, complete with fireworks!), music concerts, cultural celebrations, and seasonal festivities that bring the community together.
During events, food trucks and vendors often line the paths, and when you're ready for something more, downtown restaurants and bars are just a short stroll away. The waterfront setting adds a pleasant atmosphere to the live music performances.
Bring Your Four-Legged Friends
Your dogs are welcome to join you at Mill Point Park, provided they stay on a leash. You'll discover dog waste bag dispensers around the grounds to help keep the park clean and enjoyable for everyone.
Good to Know
The park doesn't have permanent restrooms, however portable toilets typically appear during events. There are some picnic tables available, but they're limited in number, so you might want to bring a blanket if you're planning a picnic.
Green Initiatives
Beyond its role as a community gathering space, Mill Point Park is making waves with an impressive environmental project. A living shoreline is currently being installed around the park to improve water quality in the Hampton River and help the city meet its pollution reduction goals.
Set to be completed by summer 2025, this project will create a more diverse and interesting landscape while also stabilizing the shoreline and reducing the impact of waves. It's a thoughtful blend of environmental stewardship and community enhancement that adds another layer to this already special place.
