About the Location

Location and History

Gillies Creek Park is a 40-acre urban green space located in Richmond's East End at the intersection of Stony Run Drive and Williamsburg Road.

Established in the early 1990s, this park serves as a recreational hub for several surrounding neighborhoods and is situated just minutes from downtown Richmond.

Unique Attractions

The park's most unique attraction is Richmond's only BMX race track, which serves as the home track for Richmond BMX, an affiliate of the National Bicycle League. This track draws BMX enthusiasts from across the region for regular races and events.

Disc golf aficionados frequent the park for its 18-hole disc golf course, which offers a mix of open and wooded holes. The course provides a challenge for players of different skill levels and is known for its quick play and unique shot shapes.

Additional Amenities

In addition to BMX and disc golf, the park boasts several other recreational amenities. There are multiple sports fields suitable for activities such as baseball, soccer, and kickball.

The park also features horseshoe pits that host regular games and tournaments.

Gillies Creek Park offers walking and jogging trails for those seeking a peaceful stroll or a more vigorous workout. The park's natural setting, including the creek from which it takes its name, provides a pleasant backdrop for outdoor activities and relaxation.

Future Development

The Gillies Creek Park Foundation works in collaboration with the City of Richmond to develop and maintain the park.

Their long-term vision includes plans to connect Gillies Creek Park with other nearby green spaces, creating an urban greenway that would link Richmond neighborhoods to the riverfront, Tobacco Row, the Virginia Capital Trail, and the restored canal.
