About City View District Park
What to Play
Nestled between Kempsville Road and Centerville Turnpike, City View District Park spreads across 43 peaceful acres in Virginia Beach. This spacious green retreat offers something for just about everyone, whether you're looking to break a sweat or simply enjoy some fresh air.
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the four lighted softball fields where local youth baseball games and tournaments regularly unfold. If you're planning an event, these fields are available for rental. There's also a versatile multi-purpose field that's meant for a casual game of frisbee or giving your four-legged friend some exercise space.
Fancy shooting some hoops? The basketball courts attract local players of all skill levels. And when summer vibes hit, the sand volleyball court becomes a popular spot - though you might find kids using it as an oversized sandbox when matches aren't in progress.
Family Fun
Kids have plenty of room to burn energy at two separate playgrounds positioned at opposite ends of the park. The larger playground offers equipment for various ages, while the smaller one typically provides a quieter experience. Both areas include swings, and one thoughtfully features therapeutic cradle swing seats for children with special needs.
When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic shelters equipped with charcoal grills. Many tables sit comfortably under shade trees, making them perfect spots for family gatherings or birthday celebrations. Planning something special like a family reunion? You can reserve the shelters in advance.
Trails and Nature
If you're looking to get your steps in, the paved shared-use path meanders within the grounds, offering a smooth surface for walking, jogging, or teaching little ones to ride bikes. Large trees create welcome shade along portions of the trail, providing relief on hot Virginia days.
For a more immersive nature experience, explore the wooded trail section - though keep in mind it's not ideal for strollers or bikes due to its rougher terrain. One of the park's more unique features is a small bamboo forest area that adds an unexpected touch to your wanderings.
The park's retention ponds attract geese and other wildlife, while squirrels and birds are common sights around the grounds, especially if you venture into the wooded areas.
Good to Know
Public restrooms and vending machines are available for when nature calls or thirst strikes. The restrooms are centrally located near the baseball fields and are typically clean and well-maintained.
One of City View's charms is its relatively uncrowded atmosphere compared to other Virginia Beach parks. The generous canopy of mature trees throughout the grounds makes even summer visits comfortable.
Dog owners, you're welcome to bring your pets for walks along the trails. Just remember to keep them leashed and use the dog waste stations located in at least two spots across the park.
Parking is generally plentiful for everyday visits, however you might find spaces limited during baseball tournaments or special events.
