About the Location
A Little Glimpse of History
Tucked away at the intersection of East Grand and Everett Avenue, Riverside Park is a small but charming green space in Everett's historic Riverside neighborhood. This peaceful spot didn't just appear overnight - back in 1994, local residents Mary and Bob Burns rallied the community to transform what was once just a weedy patch behind a guardrail into the serene retreat we see today.
Bridges of the Past
Stand in this park and you're actually standing on a piece of Everett's history. This was once the site of a bridge that connected Everett to Lake Stevens, crossing over the Snohomish River in the city's early days. Look for the three magnificent Black Walnut trees to the north - these century-old giants were planted by the McManus family and have witnessed decades of change, including a memorable Snohomish River flood in 1950 that submerged the roads below where you're standing.
Views Worth Pausing For
What makes this modest park special is undoubtedly its perspective. From here, you can take in sweeping views of the Snohomish River as it winds through the landscape, with the Cascade Mountain Range creating a dramatic backdrop on clear days. Train enthusiasts will appreciate watching the Burlington Northern Railroad (formerly the Great Northern) as it runs just below the park. Early risers might appreciate the sunrise from this vantage point, along with views of activity at the nearby boat yard.
Simple Pleasures
Riverside Park embraces minimalism with just two benches set along a sidewalk overlooking the river. There's something refreshing about its simplicity - no playground equipment or fancy facilities, just a quiet place to sit and contemplate the view. It's great for catching your breath during a neighborhood walk or bike ride through the historic Riverside area.
Neighborhood Pride
What this park may lack in size, it makes up for in community spirit. Year-round, dedicated neighborhood volunteers maintain the space, adding seasonal flowers and holiday decorations that reflect the changing calendar. In a particularly heartwarming addition, Girl Scout troop 42903 installed a Free Little Library in 2013, creating a spot where neighbors can exchange books and ideas - a fitting symbol for a park that exists thanks to community connection.
