About the Location
Park Features
Situated in Everett, this charming 10-acre retreat has been a community favorite for over four decades. No matter if you're looking for a peaceful afternoon or an active day out, Wiggums Hollow offers a little something for everyone.
At the heart of the park sits a truly unique playground with an educational twist - the equipment features rooflines inspired by countries around the world. It combines fun with learning as children climb and slide their way across the various internationally-inspired structures.
One of our favorite spots is the labyrinth - a peaceful walking path with a meditative quality. Many locals have adopted the ancient practice of labyrinth walking meditation here, finding it a surprisingly effective way to quiet the mind and find some peace in our always-connected world.
The generous open green spaces are excellent for throwing down a blanket for a picnic, tossing a frisbee, or just lounging with a good book. A paved walking path circles the entire field, making it ideal for morning strolls or evening dog walks - you'll often spot seniors getting their daily exercise here too.
Recreation Opportunities
Since June 2008, skateboarders have been catching air at the Wiggums Hollow Skate Park. It's become something of a community hub where skaters of all skill levels can practice tricks and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
If basketball is more your style, the park's court offers a place to shoot some hoops or join a pickup game. During summer months, the park hosts Shakespeare performances under the open sky. On some hot weekends, the local Fire Department occasionally visits with their water cannons - creating an impromptu splash pad that's popular with children.
Amenities
Planning a gathering? The park's gazebo comes equipped with barbecue facilities and picnic tables, making it an ideal spot for birthday celebrations or family reunions.
Public restrooms are available during daylight hours and are cleaned daily - a practical detail that makes longer visits much more comfortable. Just note that they're locked at night and may be closed during winter months.
Educational Value
Wiggums Hollow isn't just about play - it's a living classroom too. The park includes a learning garden used as an outdoor educational space by the nearby grade school. Here, students learn about nature, art, and culture through hands-on activities.
The garden's raised beds make it accessible for young gardeners, while the playground equipment has been thoughtfully designed to help children develop coordination and physical skills as they play.
Art and Culture
Beyond the meditative labyrinth, you'll discover various art exhibits scattered throughout the grounds, adding unexpected moments of creativity to your visit.
The playground's globally-inspired design elements offer more than just a place to play - they provide a subtle introduction to world architecture that kids absorb naturally as they explore.
Historical Significance
The park carries the legacy of Arnold Wiggum, a former principal of Everett's Hawthorne Elementary School. This namesake honors his significant contributions to local education - a fitting tribute for a space that continues to nurture learning and community connection.
