About the Location
Trail Gateway
Gary Grant Park is one of the main gateways to the Soos Creek Trail, a nearly 6-mile stretch fantastic for exploring the natural beauty of Kent. Regardless of whether you're looking to take a leisurely stroll, hop on your bike, or get in your daily jog, this park is a good starting point for your adventure.
There's room for about 40 cars in the parking lot, making it convenient to access both the park itself and the trail. Just keep in mind that on gorgeous weekend days, those spots can fill up pretty quickly!
What You'll Find
The park combines open meadows with wooded sections, offering a nice contrast to the urban landscape. Kids will appreciate the playground, which is well-kept and designed primarily with older children in mind - though little ones might find some of the equipment a bit challenging.
Clean restrooms are available when nature calls, a welcome amenity for both park visitors and trail enthusiasts alike.
Picnic Paradise
Planning a get-together? Gary Grant Park features at least one covered gazebo with picnic tables, fantastic for family gatherings or meetups with friends. There are also BBQ facilities if you're in the mood for some outdoor grilling.
The shelter gives you a place to enjoy your meal regardless of whether the Pacific Northwest brings sunshine or a sudden shower.
On the Trail
What we like about the Soos Creek Trail is how it feels removed from the hustle and bustle of city streets. The path winds through landscapes that change with the seasons - from spring blossoms to fall foliage and everything in between.
Dog parents will appreciate that the trail is four-legged-friendly, with conveniently placed trash cans and free dog waste bags near where the parking lot meets the trail. If you prefer solitude, morning visits typically offer a quieter experience, and the wide pathway gives everyone plenty of room to enjoy their outdoor time.
Natural Wonders
The park includes some fascinating wetland areas where you might spot local wildlife going about their day. Keep an eye out for industrious beavers that have reshaped parts of the landscape with their natural engineering skills. These natural elements add to the park's character.
The varied terrain attracts nature enthusiasts and photographers throughout the year.
Behind the Scenes
The City of Kent maintains the park itself, while the connecting Soos Creek Trail falls under King County's management. This collaboration between local governments helps maintain the park and trail system.
